Sometimes a visit to the doctor’s office or urgent care isn’t the best or most convenient option when you need medical care. With telehealth, you can get the care you need — planned or unplanned — at the touch of a button and from the comfort of your own home.
Telehealth, also called telemedicine or virtual care, gives you the option to receive care from an MU Health Care provider from home or even miles away. Simply use your computer, smartphone or tablet to connect with urgent care, primary care and specialty providers for symptom evaluations, prescriptions, follow-up care and more.
On-Demand Telehealth
On-Demand Telehealth visits are great for when you or a loved one needs quick, convenient care for illnesses or symptoms like:
- Cold and flu
- Sore throat
- Fever
- Rashes
- Seasonal allergies
- Sinus infection
- Pink eye
- Headaches
An On-Demand Telehealth visit will connect you with our urgent care specialists. They will review your symptoms and concerns and discuss what works best for you, including prescribing medication and helping with a referral if necessary.
Benefits of On-Demand Telehealth
Whether you have a sick kid or aren’t feeling well enough yourself to leave the house for non-emergency care, On-Demand Telehealth is a great way to get care from the comfort of home. All our providers are MU Health Care employees who use our patient record system and work with our network of pharmacies, specialists and therapists to make follow-ups, prescriptions and referrals seamless.
Other benefits of an On-Demand Telehealth visit include:
- Affordability, ease and convenience
- No appointment, no waiting
- Consults and diagnoses, with prescriptions as appropriate
Hours
Our specialists are available from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., following the same hours as South Providence Urgent Care.
Cost
Our On-Demand Telehealth services are now in-network with multiple insurance providers, including United Healthcare, Aetna, Anthem, Cigna and Healthy Blue. Each visit is treated like a standard appointment with applicable copays.
For patients not covered by insurance, self-pay visits are $64 each.
Scheduled Telehealth
Scheduled Telehealth gives you the power to choose a date and time that works best for you, giving you access to a primary care provider or specialist from anywhere with your mobile device or computer. Just like an in-person primary care or specialty care visit, patients can use Scheduled Telehealth appointments to discuss illnesses, chronic disease management, treatment or procedure follow-ups and more.
Scheduled Telehealth visits can be especially helpful for those who need follow-up care or are checking in with a specialty provider and don’t live nearby.
Visits cost the same as a primary care or specialty visit under your insurance.
Choosing Your Telehealth Option
Both telehealth visits use video and audio features to communicate with a provider. On-Demand Telehealth is the best choice for when you need care quickly for minor illnesses, but your doctor’s office is closed or doesn’t have appointments available, or you can’t see someone in person.
Scheduled Telehealth visits with your own primary care or specialist providers are a good option if you have specific questions about your health and want to speak with a provider who knows your medical history, you have the option for virtual check-ins after a treatment or procedure, or if you have a condition that needs specialty care management.
