Effective April 1, 2025, MU Health Care is out of network with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield's (Anthem's) Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans. This means you may have to pay more to out of pocket to see MU Health Care doctors and care teams or you may need to find a new, in-network provider for your care.
Mizzou Pharmacy will remain in Anthem's network, allowing us to continue serving Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO patients at in-network rates.
We know how important it is for you to be able to access convenient, local health care services you trust, and we want to be sure you are able to get the care you need and deserve.
Here is what you should know:
- If you have an Anthem or Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage PPO plan, you have out-of-network benefits. You can call Anthem or Blue Cross Blue Shield at the number on the back of your insurance ID card to determine if your cost to receive care at MU Health Care will remain the same, or if you will have higher out-of-pocket costs.
- This negotiation does not impact patients who have Original (Traditional) Medicare (Medicare Parts A and B) or an Anthem Medicare Supplement.
- If you have an Anthem or Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Advantage HMO plan, you have options:
- You may call the number on the back of your Anthem Medicare Advantage ID card to better understand your options with your Anthem coverage.
- You may also have options available through Medicare open enrollment between now and March 31. To learn more:

- Get guidance at no charge from independent, licensed Medicare advisors by calling 888-840-6078 or visiting askchapter.org/momedicare.
- Visit muhealth.org/medicare to learn more about your options and the Medicare plans MU Health Care accepts.
- If you are undergoing treatment for certain ongoing medical conditions, you may be eligible to continue receiving care for that condition at MU Health Care through a Continuity of Care benefit, at in-network rates for a period of time. Call Anthem at the number on the back of your insurance ID card to determine if you are eligible for the Continuity of Care benefit, and if so, if you have a qualifying condition.
- While Anthem determines if Medicare Advantage members qualify, members can call our Continuity of Care Hub at 573-771-CARE if they have questions or need assistance completing the application.
- In 2025, MU Health Care will participate in the following other Medicare plans:
- Original Medicare and all Medicare Supplements
- Medicare Advantage
- Aetna
- Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (health plans terminating March 31, 2025; pharmacy will remain in network)
- Humana (excludes Mizzou Pharmacy)
- UnitedHealthcare
- Wellcare (Centene)
- In case of a medical emergency, please know that insurance companies are required by law to cover medically necessary emergency care at your in-network rate at any emergency department.
