Continuity of Care

For most patients with an approved Continuity of Care benefit, the standard 90-day period ends June 30, 2025. This means that starting July 1, MU Health Care providers and facilities will no longer be covered at in-network rates for the majority of Anthem members with continuity of care. If you have questions about coverage or to find an in-network provider, please contact Anthem at the number on the back of your insurance card.

Exceptions to the standard 90-day period exist for a select patient population, including:

  • Pregnant and currently receiving prenatal care through delivery and post-partum
  • Diagnosed as terminally ill and receiving treatment for such illness
  • Oncology patients receiving active chemotherapy or radiation – patient must contact Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to request a network exception.

If you are having a challenge in accessing care from your insurer's network or feel that your plan has an inadequate network of providers or are violating Missouri's standards for HMOs, you have options.

  • Work with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (Anthem) to find local, in-network clinicians.
  • If you are unsatisfied with the response or unable to gain adequate access, you can send a complaint to the Missouri Department of Commerce & Insurance (DCI) by filling out the DCI consumer complaint form and submitting it in one of the following two ways. Please note that DCI will assist patients covered by self-funded insurers in ensuring their complaint is forwarded to the appropriate U.S. Department of Labor office.
    • Fax it to (573) 526-4898
    • Mail it to P.O. Box 690, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0690
