Program will fill gap created by the closure of the Missouri Physician Health Program
University of Missouri Health Care’s Physician and Health Professional Wellness Program will offer statewide services to Missouri health care professionals and ensure continuity of care for participants of the Missouri Physicians Health Program (MPHP), which stopped offering services in December.
MU Health Care’s program will provide confidential in-person and virtual support for any health care professionals in Missouri for needs related to mental health, well-being, substance use disorders, burnout and other needs. The program works with the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts, Dental Board and the Board of Pharmacy to provide health professionals with necessary support.
“Our mission to save and improve lives extends beyond patients and includes the many different types of health professionals who serve our great state,” said Shelly Farnan, Chief Wellness Officer who helps to lead the Physician Health and Wellness Program. “When the Missouri Physician Health Program ceased operations, MU Health Care was honored to ensure these services continue to be offered, so Missouri doctors, nurses and other health professionals receive the support they deserve.”
MU Health Care’s Physician and Health Professional Wellness Program, formerly known as the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians (MAOPS) Program, has been serving health professionals since 1987. It’s the only statewide program designed to support participant well-being, help regain or maintain professional licensure and support each participant’s wellness goals through a variety of services provided by professionals with years of experience in addictionology, mental health and physician and health professional wellness.
