Additional space designed to reduce wait times and put kids at ease
University of Missouri Health Care’s Children’s Emergency Room is now larger and features spaces designed with kids in mind.
The expanded Children’s ER at University Hospital opened Dec. 3 with 16 total pediatric beds and rooms built specifically for pediatric patients. The seven additional beds will result in reduced wait times, even during peak hours.
“We are so pleased to offer an emergency department tailored to the needs of young patients and their family members,” said Dr. Matthew Robinson, chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. “This includes dedicated parking spaces, a separate entrance and waiting area, and patient rooms specifically designed for kids.”
In addition to a completely private area for children and families to wait, the newly expanded Children’s ER also features a team of pediatric experts dedicated specifically to treating children.
“As we designed this new space, we kept forefront and center that kids aren’t just miniature adults, they need specialized care tailored to their unique needs,” Robinson said.
The entrance to the Children’s ER at University Hospital is located on Dean’s Drive. Parking spaces are reserved on the first floor of the Tiger Avenue Parking Structure, directly across the street from the entrance.
