Patients will receive the same expert services at University Hospital

MU Health Care will close the Women’s Hospital Emergency Department at Keene Street on June 10 and move those services to the University Hospital Emergency Department.

MU Health Care’s board-certified team of emergency physicians and specialists will provide the highest level of emergency care to pregnant women at the University Hospital Emergency Department, located at 1 Hospital Drive, which includes a separate Children’s Emergency Department.

“By offering a centralized emergency department location in Columbia, our specialists can collaborate more quickly and efficiently, maximizing expertise and care for both adults and children,” said Matthew Robinson, MD, MU Health Care’s Emergency Medicine chair. “Our emergency physicians work closely with our women’s health experts and new Birthing Center to provide peace of mind for pregnant patients.”

This move is part of the transition of all women’s health services from Keene Street to the new Children’s Hospital and Birthing Center and adjacent Hitt Medical Building on the University Hospital campus.

The University Hospital Emergency Department will treat patients who are less than 20 weeks pregnant and experiencing pregnancy or general health concerns. All other pregnancy-related health concerns will be treated at the new Children’s Hospital and Birthing Center.

With the move of the Women’s Hospital and emergency room from Keene Street to the new Children’s Hospital and Birthing Center on the University Hospital Campus, the Keene Street building will be used to expand our surgical capacity to meet the significant need for operating rooms. We continue to evaluate future options for the Keene Street building as we work to expand access to care for our patients.
