Third such recognition for the organization, recognizing innovation in the application of information and technology to improve patient care

University of Missouri Health Care was recently recognized as a 2023 HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence organization. MU Health Care is one of only four organizations globally to win this distinction a third time and is the only healthcare organization using Oracle’s information technology platform to reach this milestone.

The award from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society recognizes the thoughtful application of information and technology to substantially improve clinical care delivery, patient outcomes, and population health around the world. MU Health Care also received this award in 2015 and 2021.

“Delivering on our mission of saving and improving lives is a total team effort,” Deb Dow, chief information officer at MU Health Care, said. “This award recognizes our health care professionals that are turning data into action to drive improvement in the delivery of care.”

MU Health Care’s health IT operations are led by the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation, a unique private-public partnership between the University of Missouri and Oracle Cerner. Formed more than a decade ago, the Tiger Institute is a model for leveraging industry collaboration and better health care. Their work has improved the health and safety of patients, reduced costs and shaped the future of care for Missouri and beyond.

“Earning a third HIMSS Davies Award demonstrates our commitment to excellence in leveraging health IT in care delivery,” said Dr. Thomas Selva, Chief Medical Information Officer at the University of Missouri. “Clinician-lead, data-driven and IT-enabled is the cornerstone of why we are an industry leader in health care innovation.”

In addition to this recognition from HIMSS, MU Health Care has been recognized as one of the nation’s “Most Wired” health systems, according to the 2021 Most Wired Survey by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
