Whether you are a new mom or already have other children, you deserve a unique, memorable birth experience.
We provide expert care only a women's-focused team can deliver, and we offer mid-Missouri communities the most experienced and comprehensive medical team for mothers and infants.
Our birthing center offers technology and facilities for prenatal monitoring, childbirth, neonatal care and women’s health. We offer exceptional care by providing an obstetrician and anesthesiologist on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
We have earned the Baby-Friendly® designation, setting us apart from other hospitals in the area and demonstrating our commitment to forming lasting bonds between mothers and babies. We provide personalized support for infant feeding and early bonding, including encouraging skin-to-skin contact in the operating room in the event of a caesarean section. To ensure your comfort, our birthing center offers all private rooms and bathrooms. Our doctors, certified nurse midwives and staff have earned top marks for providing high-quality health care for mothers and babies.
Natural childbirth option
If you have a low-risk pregnancy and want the option to have a natural, non-medicated birthing experience with minimal medical intervention and technology, the Low-Intervention Birth Program at MU Health Care might be a great choice for you. Although the program specializes in helping women choose an unmedicated delivery, it also cares for women who want to have an epidural but still want fewer medical interventions. Best beginnings
At the Birthing Center, we believe it is important for new babies to be with their families as much as possible, so we practice “best beginnings.” Babies spend the majority of their first days rooming with mom and spending time with family.
The Birthing Center follows evidenced-based practices recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics to care for mom and baby. Our practices include placing well babies on their mother's chest immediately after delivery. This helps newborns feel safe and stabilizes their breathing and temperature. Routine procedures are done at the bedside, including finding out baby's weight and giving baby his or her first bath.
There when you need us
As the big day draws closer, we offer nurse-led classes and community learning events such as Tiger Tot Mommies. Also, if it's 3 a.m. and you suddenly have a question for your doctor, you can send a quick email through our secure patient portal.
Lactation services
Our nurses have special education and experience to help breastfeeding mothers and babies during their hospital stay. Internationally Board-Certified Consultants (IBCLC) are on staff to ensure the best start to a successful breastfeeding experience.
On-site pharmacy
One of our Mizzou Pharmacy locations is conveniently located at our Birthing Center, so you can have any prescriptions for you or your baby filled before you go home. The pharmacy is also stocked with breastfeeding supplies and the friendly staff can help answer any questions you might have.
