The first-floor entrance to University Hospital, which connects through Mid-Missouri Mental Health Center, will permanently close Monday, Aug. 11. The closing will be made to accommodate increased security at the mental health center.

Employees may enter and exit through the ground floor, directly below the closed entrance. The entrance connects to the ground floor of the Maryland Avenue Parking Garage and will be open between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day. Employees may swipe their ID badges to gain access when the door is locked after hours.

Employees also may use the first floor entrance of the Clinical Support and Education Building. It will be open between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays, and employees may swipe their ID badges to gain access after hours.

Shuttle route temporarily changed while road portion closed

The University Hospital employee shuttle will run a temporary route during the closing of a portion of Hospital Drive immediately east of its intersection with Monk Drive. The section will be closed for underground utility construction. Construction is planned from Wednesday, June 11, to Monday, August 11. The shuttle will resume its regular route upon the reopening of Hospital Drive. While the section of road is closed, employees who park in CG-1 should access the parking lot from the east end of Hospital Drive because they will not be able to access it from the west.

The shuttle, which transports employees from CG-1 parking lot at Hospital Drive and College Avenue to University Hospital and University Physicians Medical Building, will continue to pick up and drop off employees in the CG-1 parking lot. During the temporary route, it will drop off and pick up employees near the intersection of Hitt Street and Hospital Drive, at the entrances to the University Hospital patient garage and the UPMB entrance tunnel.

The route is run from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays year-round, except for on the health system's paid holidays. Five bus stops are available, and four of the stops have shelters. The route is run at least five times per hour, approximately every 10 minutes. To assure pedestrian safety, the shuttle will pick up passengers only at designated bus stops.

New medical insurance administrator announced

Beginning Jan. 1, 2008, the medical insurance administrator for the University of Missouri Medical Choice Plus POS Program will become Coventry Health Care.  Coventry Health Care is a major national insurer and administrator of health care plans.

Along with this change in administrators, there will be a name change for the program. The new name will be University of Missouri Choice Health Care Program (UM Choice Program). Coventry will replace UnitedHealthcare as the administrator and will provide customer service, claims payment and administrative services for the UM Choice Program. Since this program is self-insured by UM, this change in administrators will have no impact on the benefits available through the program. Likewise, there will be no change to prescription drug services with Express-Scripts.

Because of the breadth of Coventry’s network, there will be minimal physician and patient disruption. For a list of providers in the Coventry network, faculty and staff may visit a dedicated UM Coventry Web site, http://www.UMMEDCVTY.com.

Additional information on this change will be provided in upcoming months, including a mailing from Coventry Health Care with a form for members to complete if they have a medical condition will need a transition of care from UnitedHealthcare to Coventry Health Care. In the next few weeks, as information becomes available, there will be a section on the University of Missouri-Columbia benefits Web site with news posted.
