Maternal / Fetal Medicine and Ultrasound
Our Maternal / Fetal Medicine team at the MU Women's Health Center is dedicated to the care of mothers-to-be with pre-existing medical problems and to those who develop complications during pregnancy, such as:
- Diabetes
- Incompetent cervix
- History of previous complications
- Thyroid disease
- Hypertension
- Preterm labor
- Cardiovascular problems
- Asthma
- Kidney disease
- Lupus
- Arthritis
- Intestinal disease
- Seizure disorders
- Multiple gestations
- Neurological disease
All of our patients receive individualized attention. Care plans are developed and coordinated with other specialty providers such as endocrinologists, cardiologists, nephrologists, radiologists and genetic counselors in order to make the best treatment plan for each mother and child. We may assume care for the duration of the pregnancy, or we can work together with the obsetrician and/or primary care physician to co-manage the pregnancy.
The focus of our service is early detection and treatment, in order to allow for the best possible outcomes for mom and baby. State-of-the-art testing and screening techniques are used:
- Ultrasound Color Flow Doppler
- Fetal Monitoring
- Fetal Echocardiography
- Amniocentesis
- Chronic Villus Sampling
- Nuchal Translucency
- Genetic (Level II) Ultrasound
- 3D / 4D Ultrasound

We have achieved accreditation in recognition that our women's health division has met voluntary standards set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. Our entire practice was reviewed, including our personnel, physical facilities, documentation, storage and record-keeping, policies and procedures, quality assurance methods and how well we meet the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine standards.
