General visiting hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
New after-hours policy for visitors starts Feb. 2
Beginning Monday, Feb. 2, University of Missouri Health Care will introduce a new after-hours policy for visitors to Columbia Regional Hospital and University Hospital. The policy is designed to ensure the safety and comfort of patients and visitors after regular visiting hours.
The hospitals will be secured at night, and all visitors who will be in the hospital between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. must check in with hospital security or a hospitality coordinator by 9 p.m. daily. Visitors will receive badges designating them as approved overnight visitors.
Hospitality coordinators will make rounds in the hospitals prior to 9 p.m. to check if visitors will be staying overnight. Security officers will make rounds in the hospitals throughout the night to verify that all visitors are registered.
Additionally, Children's Hospital at University Hospital and the Labor and Delivery Unit at Columbia Regional Hospital will be secured 24 hours a day. Security cameras and intercoms will be available at the entrances to those areas for visitors to communicate with the nursing stations and be let into the units. Employees who work in those areas will access the units by swiping their ID badges.
Visitors arriving at Columbia Regional Hospital after hours must enter through the main lobby or Emergency Department entrance and receive an ID badge at the telecommunications office, Room 1079. A security camera and intercom are available at the main entrance for visitors to use to communicate with the telecommunications office before entering the hospital. Visitors entering the hospital through the Emergency Department must be escorted into the hospital by a staff member. Maps will be available with directions to the telecommunications office.
Visitors arriving at University Hospital after hours must enter through the patient and visitor garage or Emergency Department entrance and receive an ID badge at the security office, Room N122. Security cameras and intercoms are available at both entrances for visitors to use to communicate with the security office before entering the hospital. Maps will be available with directions to the security office.
Because of limited space at Columbia Regional Hospital and University Hospital, visitors are asked to stay overnight only if their loved ones are critically ill, and only two visitors will be allowed per patient. Exceptions for special circumstances may be made at the discretion of a charge nurse.
Additional after-hours visitors' rules and guidelines include:
- No inflatable mattresses, cots, sleeping bags or other bedding from outside the hospital are permitted. To receive hospital-issued bedding or linen, please call Hospitality Services at (573) 882-8220.
- No coolers or cooking appliances are allowed. Food may be brought into the hospital, but it cannot be left unattended.
- Visitors should anticipate being awakened between 8 and 9 a.m. when waiting areas are cleaned.
- Waiting area furniture should not be moved.
- Waiting areas on inpatient floors are designated "quiet areas" from 10:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. Televisions must be turned off during that time. Visitors may watch TV during quiet hours in University Hospital's main lobby and Columbia Regional Hospital's 404 Diner.
For more information, please contact Hospitality Services at (573) 882-8220.
New mothers and babies

Please limit visits to two people at a time. Those waiting to see patients may make themselves comfortable in the visitor lounges, which are located on each patient floor near the lobby elevators at the east side of the hospital and in the first-floor lobby.
For security reasons, visitors must leave the hospital by 9 p.m. unless special arrangements have been made with the nursing unit.
Visitors' personal belongings may not be stored in patient rooms or visitor lounges.
If you have cold or flu symptoms or if you or a member of your family recently has been exposed to a communicable disease, please do not enter our patient-care units.
