Commission on Cancer
The American College of Surgeons' Commission on Cancer accredits cancer centers throughout the United States. When reviewing cancer centers for accreditation, the Commission on Cancer evaluates numerous aspects of cancer care, including prevention and early detection efforts, clinical treatment, rehabilitation and support, and research.
Programs are accredited for a three-year period. After its latest review in 2010, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center received accreditation with commendation. Accreditation with commendation is the highest honor given by the Commission on Cancer, one earned by only 25 percent of hospitals.
