Guidelines for visitors
When you arrive
- Please sign in at the information/reception desk at the west end of the first floor of the Missouri Psychiatric Center. You will be asked to give the receptionist the nursing unit number and the patient's name.
- Each visitor will be given a nametag; be sure to wear the nametag and keep it visible during your visit.
- If you are visiting an adult patient, you will be escorted to the visiting room.
- Visits to adult patients will be limited to 20 minutes. Additional 20-minute visits can be arranged after all patients with visitors have had visits.
- Visits to children are left to the determination of staff and may extend to a maximum of one hour. Children visiting on the children's unit must be accompanied by an adult.

Vending machines are located outside the adult visiting room. The Grille Downstairs, a cafeteria, is located on the ground floor of University Hospital. Essentials, The Fusion of Flavor and Health, is located on the first floor of University Hospital.
Safety Safety measures are taken to promote the safety and security of all patients, visitors and staff.
Visitors will not be allowed to bring handbags, coats, packages or other items with them during patient visits. A locker will be provided for storage.
All personal items brought to the facility will be examined by nursing staff before delivery to patients. Personal cell phones and computers are not allowed on the units. No sharp or glass objects, tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars or smokeless tobacco), drugs, weapons, lighters or matches are allowed. Beverages should be in plastic bottles only. Food must be able to be consumed during the visit and will not be allowed in the unit.
There are restrictions on personal belongings patients may keep in their possession. These items should be left at the reception desk to be taken to the patient by nursing staff.
Treatment team The treatment team (psychiatrist, primary therapist/social worker and nurses) is available to meet with you by appointment from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tobacco-free policy The Missouri Psychiatric Center is tobacco-free inside and out to promote a healthy, healing environment for our patients, visitors and staff.
