American Diabetes Association
The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. The mission of the organization is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

American Dietetic Association
The American Dietetic Association promotes optimal nutrition and well-being for all people by advocating for its members.

American Heart Association
The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

American Obesity Association
The association will champion the cause by promoting education, research and community action that can improve the quality of life and self-image of sufferers.

American Society of Bariatric Physicians
The purpose of the International Bariatric Surgery Registry (IBSR) is to promote the optimum care of patients undergoing surgical treatment of severe obesity. Surgeons, hospitals and biomedical corporations have a vested interest in patient outcome analysis and assessment of medical treatment effectiveness. Development of the centralized IBSR database has provided standardized clinical data collection and analysis. Results are used to study patient selection and practice variation and operative techniques in the surgical treatment of obesity.

American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS)
Founded in 1983, foremost American surgeons have formed this society's leadership and have established an excellent organization with educational and support programs for surgeons and allied health professionals.

Association for Morbid Obesity Support
Obesityhelp.com was founded as part of the Association for Morbid Obesity Support in December of 1998 as a peer support forum. By June of 1999, the site's existence had been brought to the attention of a number of clinicians. In October of 1999, the organization was formalized to provide services to both patients and clinicians while expanding the scope of its public-outreach activities.

Beyond Change
Beyond Change is published monthly by J.K.S. Associates to inform, educate, support and encourage obese individuals, many of whom are in weight management programs or those who have had, or perhaps planning to have, bariatric (obesity) surgery.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recognized as the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people - at home and abroad - by providing credible information to enhance health decisions and promoting health through strong partnerships. International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity
This federation consists of societies and institutes for research and treatment of massive obesity, including plastics, psychiatry, endocrinology, nutrition, nursing, dietetics and allied health.

National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (National Institutes of Health)
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) provides leadership for a national program in diseases of the heart, blood vessels, lung, and blood; blood resources; and sleep disorders. The Institute plans, conducts, fosters, and supports an integrated and coordinated program of basic research, clinical investigations and trials, observational studies, and demonstration and education projects.

The National Institutes of Health
Founded in 1887, The National Institutes of Health is one of the world's foremost medical research centers. It is comprised of 25 separate institutes and centers, all part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Obesity Law and Advocacy Center
The Obesity Law and Advocacy Center is a full-service private law firm devoted to representing morbidly obese persons in a variety of legal matters. The firm handles all types of civil litigation with an emphasis in:

  • Appeal and grievance proceedings challenging denial of medically necessary treatment for obesity and morbid obesity
  • Employment discrimination and wrongful termination
  • Unreasonable denial of benefits for treatment of obesity and morbid obesity
