University of Missouri Health Care News Releases
MU Health Care Plans New Clinic In Southwest Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Health Care has purchased approximately 25 acres of land at the corner of Southampton Drive and Providence Road from State Farm Insurance to build a new facility for its University Physicians-Green Meadows clinic.

In February, the University of Missouri System Board of Curators gave approval for University of Missouri Health Care to enter into final negotiations with State Farm Insurance.

The new clinic, scheduled for completion in 2014, will house university family medicine physicians and pediatricians, outpatient psychiatric services, a retail pharmacy, laboratory services and radiological services. The current University Physicians-Green Meadows clinic at 3217 S. Providence Road in Columbia opened in 1985 and is too small to adequately meet the needs of these programs.

For those reasons, in September 2010, the University of Missouri Board of Curators approved a request allowing University of Missouri Health Care to use debt financing of $30 million to build a replacement facility for University Physicians-Green Meadows. The bonds will be paid with revenues of MU Health Care. The cost of the land is included in the total $32.5 million cost for the replacement facility.

“The purchase of this land in southwest Columbia will allow University of Missouri Health Care to build a larger outpatient clinic with a more efficient layout,” said James H. Ross, chief executive officer of University of Missouri Health Care. “In turn, the larger clinic will allow us to accommodate growing outpatient volumes and to expand pharmacy and radiology services in southwest Columbia.”

“University of Missouri Health Care has a tradition of providing superior medical services for our community,” said State Farm Vice President of Operations Jean Baird. “State Farm welcomes them as our new neighbor.”

No decision has been made yet about disposition or use of the old clinic building and property at 3217 S. Providence Road. University Physicians is mid-Missouri’s largest multi-specialty group, with approximately 500 physicians trained in nearly 75 specialties and subspecialties.

University Physicians also serve as faculty members at the University of Missouri School of Medicine, teaching medical students and residents and conducting research. University Physicians offer primary and specialty care at a more than 40 clinic sites in Columbia and in communities throughout the state.
