Members of the University of Missouri’s Dance Marathon Steering Committee presented a $13,382 check to MU Children’s Hospital’s leaders during a ceremony on Monday, Oct. 18, at the Children’s Blood Disorders and Cancer Unit inside MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital at 404 Keene Street, in Columbia.
MU’s Dance Marathon team has pledged to donate $100,000 to Children’s Hospital during the next five years.
In November 2009, more than 350 University of Missouri students danced at MU’s Student Recreation Center from noon until midnight in support of Children’s Hospital. Local bands and live entertainment were provided to help students pass the time. In addition, students met some of the pediatric patients at MU Children’s Hospital who benefited from their fundraising efforts.
“The energy and enthusiasm the dance marathon displayed was remarkable during the 12-hour event,” said Thomas Loew, M.D., director of the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at MU Children’s Hospital. “Equally remarkable was the energy and enthusiasm these students put forth behind the scenes to raise money for our young cancer patients. At Children’s Hospital, we are grateful for all their hard work and effort to make a difference in the lives of our patients.”
The MU Dance Marathon Steering Committee is busy preparing for next spring’s Dance Marathon. The event will be held March 12, 2011. For more information about participating or to make a donation in support of the event, please visit http://dancemarathon.missouri.edu.
