COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of Missouri Children’s Hospital and International House of Pancakes (IHOP) restaurants invited breakfast lovers with an appetite for free pancakes and supporting a good cause to the restaurant’s National Pancake Day celebration Feb. 23.

The Columbia IHOP restaurant at 51 Conley Road offered guests a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23. In return, IHOP invited guests to make a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network program at MU Children’s Hospital.

Representatives from MU Children’s Hospital, along with Tara Osseck, Miss Missouri 2009, and TJ, the official mascot of Children’s Hospital, were on hand to serve pancakes to patrons at the restaurant. All the money raised at the Columbia IHOP will stay local and directly benefit patients at MU Children’s Hospital.

This marks the fifth year that IHOP has celebrated National Pancake Day. More than 1,400 IHOP restaurants nationwide will attempt to raise $1.75 million for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

Since its inaugural National Pancake Day celebration in 2006, IHOP has given away more than 6.1 million free pancakes and raised $3.25 million in support of Children’s Miracle Network and other local charities.

Each year, the 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals throughout North America provide medical care, life-saving research and preventive education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind. Children’s Miracle Network hospitals treat 17 million children each year, including children with cancer, pediatric AIDS, muscular dystrophy, heart disease, leukemia and accident trauma.

Children’s Hospital is the largest and most comprehensive pediatric health care center in mid-Missouri. Housed at University Hospital and Columbia Regional Hospital, the 115-bed hospital is the only facility in mid-Missouri offering comprehensive, specialized children’s services such as trauma care, neonatal transport, child life therapy, a pediatric intensive care unit and a pediatric hematology and oncology outpatient unit.
