No referral is necessary for HIV patients.

The clinic is located on the first floor of the University Physicians Medical Building at 1020 Hitt Street (map). Patients may park in the parking lot across the street from the building or complimentary valet parking is available at the front door.

Other patients: appointments are by referral only. Please have your primary care physician call to arrange for an appointment.

Information to have available when you call for an appointment:

  • Primary problem - This is the major reason you are requesting the appointment.
  • Other medical conditions - Be prepared to list any other medical problems that you have had.
  • Prior medical evaluation - You may be asked about recent examinations or tests. This information helps decide on the best type of appointment for your situation. You may be asked to have this information available at the time of your appointment.
  • Primary care or referring physician - Your physician's name/office location.

Prescription Refills

As a service to our patients seen in Medicine Specialty Clinic, refills may be requested through the Medicine Specialty Clinic prescription refill line. This service is available for patients who will run out of medication before the next scheduled clinic appointment. Please call (573) 882-8788, select option 2. When you call for a refill, please have name, dosage, and frequency of the medicine as well as your pharmacy name/phone number available. Your pharmacy may FAX a request directly to the refill nurse at (573) 884-1751.

Billing and Insurance

Patients must bring their insurance card to each clinic visit. Care received from physicians and the hospital during clinic visits will be billed by University Physicians. Inpatient hospital charges will be billed by University Hospital. As a courtesy to our patients, we will file insurance claims for physician and hospital services if we have accurate and complete insurance information. We are a participating provider with Medicare and accept assignment on all Medicare claims. We also accept Medicaid patients. Those patients wanting to pay at the time of the visit should inform clinic staff at the beginning of their visit. The clinic accepts cash, checks, and VISA or MasterCard. Staff members are happy to help patients set up payment plans.
