Nursing Education and Training

Continuing Education

Whether you are a new graduate or seasoned nurse, continuing education is vital to your professional growth. As Mid-Missouri's only academic health care system, we not only value education, research and innovation, we've made these a part of our mission.

MUHC nurses are strongly encouraged to achieve advanced certification. We recognize that certification validates a nurse's skills, knowledge and abilities which contribute to better patient outcomes. For this reason, we set aside funds each year to assist our nurses in becoming certified and also to maintain continuing education required to maintain certification.

We offer our nurses a professional career ladder for R.N.s with generous compensation as you advance in the series. Along with progressive compensation programs and benefits, University of Missouri Health Care offers an education assistance program that can expand your professional possibilities. We encourage our staff to take advantage of our program, which provides 75 percent tuition reduction at the University of Missouri for full-time staff who have been employed for six months. Staff may receive this reduction for six credit hours per semmester or three credit hours per summer. One of the most comprehensive universities in the nation, the University of Missouri offers nearly 250 degree programs, including bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. degree programs in nursing.

After five years of continuous full-time service, your spouse and dependents are eligible for 50 percent tuition reduction at any University of Missouri campus.

Training Opportunities

We provide online registration for classes, online transcripts and learning plans and many computer based training modules so our staff can gain knowledge when their personal schedule allows. Our simulation lab with CEDrick the manikin simulates real patient conditions in a safe, learning environment. Nurses can practice their documentation skills in our staffed computer lab. Our educators provide numerous classes and updates while unit-based educators tailor training to the needs of each unit.
