Adolescent Diabetic Obesity (ADOBE) Program

The mission of the ADOBE Team is to help families learn how to make physical activity and healthy food choices a part of their everyday life.
The ADOBE program at University of MissouriChildren's Hospital and Clinics takes amultidisciplinary approach to the treatment of children with obesity and endocrine disorders. Our Team works with children and their families to learn how to develop healthy lifestyle habits in nutrition and physical activities. We provide medical evaluations, nutritional counseling, access to physical activities and resources, and behavioral psychology services to encourage our youth to stay healthy.
At the initial visit, patients will meet with Aneesh Tosh, MD, MS, Elizabeth Freeman, RD, LD, CDE, and Jill Schremp, RD. Dr. Tosh is board certified in pediatrics and adolescent medicine, and Elizabeth and Jill are registered dieticians with extensive experience with pediatric endocrinology and diabetes. At the end of the initial visit, a treatment plan will be outlined which may include lifestyle change recommendations, laboratory testing, other medical tests or referrals, and medication if indicated. Patients are generally seen in follow-up every month to every three months.
The Team also works with children and adolescents who have, or are at risk for, type 2 diabetes to educate them about the importance of nutrition and lifestyle choices. Patients with type 2 diabetes also receive appropriate diabetes education, diabetes-specific resource materials and diabetes health monitoring. Dr. Tosh sees ADOBE patients at his clinic located at 1020 Hitt Street, next to the University Hospital Patient and Visitor Parking Garage. For more information about the ADOBE program, please contact the Team at 800 500-6979.
