Hyperbaric Medicine Center
This is our state of the art, Perry Baromedical Sigma II, a dualplace hyperbaric chamber with entry lock. The design of this chamber allows a staff member or physician to accompany patients during the treatment in order to provide medical care. The chamber has a clear acrylic canopy, allowing patients to watch television, and an entry lock for attendants to enter and exit the chamber.
We provide approximately 1,000 treatments per year for patients with diseases that benefit from high concentration oxygen exposure.
What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
Patients are placed in a pressurized environment (from 2-3 times normal atmospheric pressure) and breathe 100% oxygen. High concentrations of oxygen help the body heal a number of medical conditions. Treatments are typically 2 hours long and are administered once each day.
What diseases or conditions do we treat?
Hyperbaric oxygen treats several different types of emergencies, such as:
- Carbon monoxide poisoning, smoke inhalation and cyanide poisoning,
- Gas gangrene,
- Necrotizing fasciitis,
- Acute traumatic ischemia: crush injuries, ischemic skin grafts and flaps, compartment syndromes and frostbite,
- Decompression sickness, diving accidents and arterial gas embolism, and
- Exceptional blood loss anemia.
In addition, we treat a number of common disorders, such as:
- Radiation-damaged bone and soft tissue,
- Refractory osteomyelitis,
- Preparation for skin grafts and flaps in compromised tissue, and
- Selected problem wounds like non-healing diabetic foot wounds.
