During the opening of Children's Hospital, we heard from many families who wanted another way to say thanks - thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff who make Children's Hospital great.
In October 2010, a bronze statue featuring T.J. on a bench was placed outside Children's Hospital. Called T.J.'s Courtyard, the area will eventually feature planters, a fountain and two brick walkways - called T.J.'s Walkway - leading up to the bench. It will be a spot for children and their families to take a moment of respite - andf snap some photos with T.J., the beloved Children's Hospital mascot.
Those interested can fund a brick in T.J.'s Walkway by making a donation to Children's Hospital. The brick, which can be engraved with up to 39 characters or spaces, will be a permanent part of the new Children's Hospital.
Donors may purchase as many bricks as they wish, and family and friends may request their bricks to be grouped together in the walkway. Every year, as more bricks are funded, the blank bricks will be removed and the engraved bricks will take their place. Net proceeds from the project will support Children's Hospital and its mission to care for children in central Missouri.
"I hope it will be a welcoming place for our patients and families - a place to get away for a moment and let families be together," said Timothy Fete, MD, medical director of Children's Hospital.
