University of Missouri Health Care Social Media Guidelines

The purpose of these guidelines is to help employees understand how University of Missouri Health Care policies apply to social media.  The absence of or lack of explicit references to a specific social networking/media site does not limit the extent of the application of this policy.  If you have questions about this policy, please contact the Public Relations Department at (573) 882-1081.

Official Social Media Postings for MU Health Care
Postings about or on behalf of University of Missouri Health Care are made only on officially created MU Health Care social media sites (Facebook, YouTube, etc.) by the MU Health Care Public Relations and Marketing Department.  Contact the Public Relations Department at 882-1081 if you have information about your department or official MU Health Care activities and events that you would like publicized.

Video Recording, Audio Recording and Photography
To protect the safety and privacy of our patients, physicians and staff, no video recording, audio recording or photography is allowed inside University of Missouri Health Care facilities without the prior permission of the MU Health Care Public Relations Department. An exception is the Family Birth Center at Women's and Children's Hospital, where limited videotaping by family members or friends is allowed in private patient rooms with the prior permission of the patient's attending physician.

Personal Social Media Communication
If you are personally communicating on external social media platforms, you should not use the MU Health Care name in your identity (e.g., user name, screen name).  Follow all applicable University of Missouri and MU Health Care policies.  For example, you must not share confidential or proprietary information about MU Health Care, and you must maintain patient confidentiality.  Do not use external social networking/media sites to carry out work-related duties or share work-related documents with co-workers.  Among the policies most relevant to this discussion are those concerning computer, e-mail and Internet use, MU Health Care code of ethics, release of patient information and patient confidentiality.  Do not share confidential or proprietary information about MU Health Care or similar information of third parties who have shared such information with our institution.  MU Health Care intellectual property, logos, trademarks and copyrights may not be used in any manner.

Violation of these guidelines may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
